the wolf and the lambOnce upon a time a Wolf was lapping at a spring on a hillside, when, looking up, what should he see but a Lamb just beginning to drink a little lower down. ‘There’s my supper,’ thought he, ‘if only I can find some excuse to seize it.’ Then he called out to the Lamb, ‘How dare you muddle the water from which I am drinking?’ ‘Nay, master, nay,’ said Lambkin; ‘if the water be muddy up there, I cannot be the cause of it, for it runs down from you to me.’

‘Well, then,’ said the Wolf, ‘why did you call me bad names this time last year?’

‘That cannot be,’ said the Lamb; ‘I am only six months old.’

‘I don’t care,’ snarled the Wolf; ‘if it was not you it was your father;’ and with that he rushed upon the poor little Lamb and ‘WARRA WARRA WARRA WARRA WARRA ‘ate her all up. But before she died she gasped out.

’ Any excuse will serve a tyrant.’

    The Canary and the Butterfly
A canary and a butterfly were flying in the jungle. All of a sudden each saw a marvelous unknown flower which was peacefully growing near a spring on a hillside. The blossom was bright and sparkling and the drops of the morning dew were glittering like diamonds on the leaves. The canary and the butterfly rushed upon the flower each wanting to be the first to drink from its nectar, but as the butterfly was closer, it was first to reach the blossom. The canary got angry and thought: “That’s my flower. If only I could find some excuse to get rid of the butterfly, all the nectar would be mine.” Then it called out to the butterfly: “How dare you stay on my flower and drink from its nectar! Don’t you see its petals have the color of my feathers?” The butterfly was embarrassed and answered: “Nay, canary. Nowhere is written your name on the flower. We can both share the nectar. Come and drink with me.” The canary said: “How dare you call me bad names? I’m the most beautiful creature in the jungle and you call me just canary. This flower is rightfully mine! You’re smaller and you should step away!” ”No”, answered the butterfly, “All living things deserve to see and share the beauty of the flower!” The canary was furious. It rushed upon the poor little butterfly and killed it with its sharp beak. But before the butterfly die it gasped out: “Any excuse will serve a tyrant.”

  2. Hiking in the Mountains
We were seven enthusiastic hikers who wanted to climb the Vitosha Mountains. Having packed all the rucksacks, tents, equipment, food and water supplies we headed for Vitosha from Orlite Hut hoping it would just take a day.
The route was not so hard but tiring. Recently a new member joined our team of nature lovers but only to find out he was a lazybones. We stopped at a spring on a hillside to have a rest for a while when I heard him murmuring, ”If only I could find some excuse not to carry that heavy rucksack.” I pretended I hadn’t heard him but my mouth was quicker that I’d expected and I heard myself saying, “Hey, if you’re going to murmur all day long, just take your luggage and go home.” The guy got furious and rushing upon me said, “Don’t call me bad names! I could smash your face!” I was calm and confident. “Yeah, year. Any excuse will serve a tyrant!”
